Client identified leaks to a transformer which had previously had repairs carried out to other areas.
Belzona UK was requested to implement the leak sealing system, with the objective of reducing or eliminating oil leaks to ensure the equipment can continue to operate as designed.
The identified areas were degreased, followed by surface preparation using 110V power tools, including grinders fitted with flap wheels and specialist rotating wire wheels.
Belzona 1161 was the applied to the joint/gasket areas, as well as to the nuts and bolt heads, incorporating Belzona Reinforcement Sheet where possible. In addition, caps filled with Belzona 1161 was placed over the bolt and nut heads, which remained in place during curing.
To complete the system, the entire repair area will receive a final coat of Belzona 5831 LT, fully encapsulating the repair.
Transformer oil is very expensive and environmentally detrimental. Additionally, if levels of oil drop significantly it can be catastrophic for the vital piece of equipment. The Belzona solution ensured that all leaks were sealed, and the customer could continue to use the asset with confidence.
