At a factory in the Rotterdam area, the integrity of a pipeline was critical due to decreasing wall-thickness. The pipeline was important for the production process, so it could not be taken out of service. The wall thickness was so critical, that blasting or grinding activities would cause leakages, thus was not possible.
To bring strength back to this pipe Belzona SuperWrap II system was chosen. No leaks were detected, so Belzona SuperWrap II was applied directly on the hot pipe at 30 degrees Celsius. A small landing area was created on both ends of the wrap, so it would have a good adhesion. In total 3 layers were applied on the straight parts and 6 layers on the corners.
At critical areas like supports and flanges the area was grinded with MBX Bristle Blaster. Also the landing area (300 mm wide) was prepared with MBX Bristle Blaster (ATEX).
In total 30 meters of pipeline was wrapped with Belzona SuperWrap II. The integrity of this pipeline was restored without any downtime and production halt.
