Undergoing a planned shutdown, the client encountered issues while breaking into the cooling water system due to seized bolts.
Application Situation
The spools were removed by cutting around the sealing face joints, severing the bolts and causing damage to the sealing surfaces in the process.
In addition to this damage, several stabbings have either completely failed or have been previously repaired in situ over the years but are no longer performing as required.
Application Solution
Surface preparation was carried out using power tools, in line with best practice for composite repairs.
Damaged sealing faces were reprofiled using Belzona 7311.
For the stabbing Repairs, new collars were machined to slip over the existing damaged stabbings, improving both bonding area and structural integrity. These collars were then bonded in place using Belzona 7311, followed by an external reinforcement using Belzona SuperWrap II.
Belzona Benefits
This wrap system has previously been used successfully on several cooling water pipes. The solution ensured minimal downtime and had fully restored the assets.
