An SF₆ gas leak was identified on a 132kV junction at a Power Station, resulting in emissions and posing a risk to long-term asset reliability.
Following an assessment, it was determined that the component geometry prevented the use of a standard SF₆ repair solution. A bespoke composite containment system was therefore designed to address the leak.
Existing repair materials were removed and the surface prepared. A custom-built Belzona composite containment box was installed around the leaking fitting, incorporating a vent pipe for controlled gas release. Belzona 7311 was then injected to fill all voids and eliminate potential leak paths before the vent was sealed following inspection.
The result was SF₆ gas emissions had reduced to undetectable levels of emissions and the application
extends the service life of a critical electrical asset. Ultimately, avoiding costly equipment replacement and operational disruption.
